Life is their music and Lebanon is on their lips
The Plays of the Rahbani Brothers |
The plays of the Rahbani Brothers accompanied by the angelic voice of Fairouz are a symbol of modern day Lebanon. No other musical troupe are associated so strongly with Lebanon’s history, culture and artistry and no other composers are so revered throughout the Arab world for fusing classical, contemporary and traditional Lebanese music into a distinctive Rahbani style.
For decades the Rahbani Brothers have dominated theatre with their folkloric plays depicting life in Lebanon from village simplicities to moral ambiguities. The memorable songs that accompanied these plays have lived on long past the final curtain close and are still heard amongst the Lebanese of the world as new generations relive the glories of Fairouz, Mansour and Assi Rahbani.
Dr Moufeed Massouh has taken these glories and presented them in an accurate and complex book concerning the Rahbani plays entitled “Jamaliyat Al Ibda'a Ar-Rahbani.” Dr Massouh analyses the plays and songs of the Fairouz/Rahbani compositions and their relation to the culture of Lebanon. Written in Arabic, this book is an important academic insight into the relevence and legacy that the Rahbani brothers have in Lebanon.
The book is available for purchase through the Australian Lebanese Youth Association or through Jamaliya.com. For more information please contact us or visit the website www.jamaliya.com.
