Executive Committee ALYA 2007-08
Mounir Kiwan – President

Mounir Kiwan has a Bachelor of Arts (History Major) from the University of Melbourne and is currently studying Law at Latrobe University. Mounir is a committe member of Australians for Lebanon and is currently State Executive for Victorian Young Labor. Mounir served as Vice-President in ALYA's inaugural year and traces his roots to Rayak in the Bekaa Valley and Afisdik, al-Koura in Lebanon's North.


Mike Helal – Vice-President

Former committee member Mike has been elected to the role of Vice-President, a task he readily accepts. The University of Melbourne Arts student majoring in English Literature and Economics has proven to be the most active member of ALYA over the last year and one of the group’s most lively members. Mike is extremely motivated and was recently elected to Student Representative Council. Mike is also the Secretary of the Melbourne University Lebanese Students Association, an affiliate of ALYA.


Dania Dabliz – Events Officer

Dania was born in Tripoli, Lebanon and has been in Australia since 2004. A Civil Engineering student at Victoria University, Dania established the Victoria University Lebanese Student Association (VULSA) and is curently on the Victoria University Student Union as Equity Liaison Officer at Footscray Park Campus. Dania also liaises with different community based organisations and does voluntary work with Broadmeadows Community Neighbourhood Renewal, Hume City Council, Home Ground Services, Dallas Neighbourhood House and other groups. She also holds the positions of Treasurer for the Dallas Neighbourhood House Committee and Co-ordinator for the Youth Working Group. Her distinctive passion for Lebanon and her organisational skills has made Dania a perfect choice for the ALYA Executive Committee.


Milad Bardan – Secretary

Milad Bardan is currently a Counsellor at Mensline Australia. He is completing his Masters in International Politics at Melbourne University.Among other Accreditations, he has a Bachelor of Chemical Sciences, Bachelor of Letters with Honors in Middle Eastern Studies, and a Post grad in Counselling. Milad spent the last seven years in community work. He is the current Executive Officer of the Aus Arabic Council and Public Relations Officer with VLCC. He is well published with many articles in Australian newspapers. Finally, Milad has been selected for the Australian Muslim Leadership Program.


Christiane Khalil – Assistant Secretary

Christiane Khalil is currently studying Arts/Law at La Trobe University on a full-time basis. As part of her arts degree she is undertaking a major in politics and a minor in english and hopes to work in the international law sector upon graduating. Additionally, Christiane combines her full time study load with part time work as well as voluntary work at the Darebin Community Legal Centre. An active member of Jupiters Dabke group, Christiane was awarded the runners-up prize in the 'Advancing Australia Fairly' essay competition of 2007, a national competition for university and TAFE students organised by the Law Students Association.


Elie Khalil – Public Relations Officer

Elie Khalil has completed a PhD in Biomedical Science at the University of Melbourne and is now working as a research officer at the Baker Heart Research Institute. Elie is an active member of the Australian Labor Party, having previously served on both the national and state executive committees of Young Labor. A founding member of ALYA and MULSA and an integral member of Jupiter's Dabke group, Elie was the first prize recipient at the 2008 Australia Day Lebanese Youth Awards.


Samir Chebib – Treasurer

Samir Chebib was born in Sir al-Dannieh, Lebanon, and moved to Australia in 1989. He is currently completing his final semester of his bachelor degree (Accounting / Information Systems major) at Victoria University, while working as an International Finance Officer with the Victorian State Government. As well as being a member of the Australian Labor Party, Samir is also the Secretary of the Victoria University Lebanese Students Association (VULSA), an affiliate of ALYA. Sam's love for Lebanon and his skill in the finance arena makes him a suitable treasurer.
